This is my biggest complaint, even more than the loading screens. You get EA's idea of style and are not allowed to construct your own. For instance in the new kitchen pack everything was available in blue! One of my favorite colors! Yay! Except, the refrigerator... Why? In 3 I would have just re- colored it the same as the stove but not here. I have to just have it be out of place. I still like 4 and I still play it but I'll never love it until color/pattern customizing is returned, which I am not even certain it can be done or done easily and cost effectively enough to tempt EA into doing it.
