That presumes that what people say and what is at the core of their feeling are the same thing. Which is rarely the case.

I would wager that there are quite a few people who are commenting on the display of the pronouns whose actual beef is that development energy is being put there at all. But, now that it's a foregone conclusion that it will happen they are shifting their attention to the display issue because at this point that's the only thing they can influence.
