Just realized how I love customizing public venues. Especially parks and lounges and bars. I want to be entertained by Sims using objects :D My apologies if this was already a recent topic. Nothing showed up when I searched.
I put these items in the Desert Bloom so far:
- telescope - waterslide with shark head - tents - bonfire - cooler - hot tubs - showers + bathtub - wee/woo bush - food bowls - garden planters - beach towels
What do you like to add to these places? Anything in particular? I very much enjoy for parks to be pet and kid friendly, for example. Also, I like many items from Outdoor Retreat.
All of my venues have been edited, probably about 90% totally replaced with something else.
Occasionally I will actually quite like a venue and just edit it a little - such as the library in Windenburg. I added a small children's area downstairs and a couple of research machines from DU. And the skill book bookcase.
I quite like making community Lots myself, but I have downloaded quite a few too. For Desert Bloom, I replaced it with my own created park which was based on Novigan Park from ts3. It has a bathroom block, lots of play equipment, bbq, horseshoes and a skating rink. Probably some other stuff too that I can't remember right now.
I usually upgrade all the gyms to have at least some Fitness Stuff equipment. My pools and spas are generally also updated with fitness and spa day items. By upgrade I mean download a nice replacement from the gallery.
I add the toddler playground from Toddler Stuff to some parks so I have a place for play dates. Other parks I make more pet friendly. All of them have grills even though they are not requirements for parks.
Those are the things I am consistent about. Otherwise I just like to have a variety of venues with different looks and entertainment options.
Ive definitely gotten into the habit of making community lots. I try to keep them on theme and not multi use if that makes sense.
So far I've made. A community pool A family style restaurant A more fancy romantic style restaurant A coffee shop A bowling alley A public library and a gym with sauna.
What I would love to know is: How do people make libraries and museums more fun places to visit? I never do, because I find them utterly boring. Don't even go there for the painting aspiration, I just cheat that goal. And certainly not for whims.

Any pointers would be very appreciated!
Now that you mention my sims haven't been in a library or museum for ages!! I really need those tips too ?
The only thing I do with libraries and museums is make clubs that meet there, and then make the club activities include both looking at displays and reading but also anything that's available nearby like chess or fishing. And then I add "be friendly with" the members of that club as an activity. Then it's a good place to be sociable with a pretty background. I have one club that is my founding sim and her teenage grandchildren, as if she's trying to educate them by taking them to museums, but I mostly use it to make the cousins get to know each other. And I have one called Culture Club for adults and elders, just to socialize in museums. And an After School Book Club for kids and teens who use the library to read, write, and do homework as well as get to know each other.
Before clubs I don't know what I would have done with those lots.
