Death by Fire?

Hello! I am trying to kill a Sim with fire so I can play with the new ghost feature but I am having trouble starting a fire. My Sim has a level 3 cooking skill and I have tried leaving food inside the oven and on top of the stove hoping it will catch fire. Sadly, it did not work and it seemed that the appliance turned off after canceling the action. I am now attempting to use the fireplace with several rugs around it and underneath of it but still no fire. My next attempt will be to start and put out fires repeatedly. Any advice? Perhaps there is a quicker way to kill my Sim?

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like so. Since The Sims 3, rugs don't make fire spread easily.
However, what type of floor you have will affect it.
When putting down a floor, look at its description. Look for low fire resistance. These are usually wooden floors and carpets (though not every wooden floor/carpet has low fire resistance).

@EgonVM Thanks. What about birthday balloons? Do they still increase chances of fire like in the original The Sims?

    Birthday balloons...

If there are balloons in The Sims 4, these are only a decorations. So the answer is no.

    Thanks.

I tried Inferniate on a floor with low fire resistance but the spread of fire is not fast enough to override the meddling Sims extinguishing the fire ?

Indeed, sims do that. Sims are smarter around fire now: they either panic and then route to safedy or put the fire out. There's nothing you can do against it...

I see you have a spellcaster who can start fires. If you want to target sims, make sure they're alone. Or if the other sims won't leave them alone, freeze them. Then cast the spell on the spot the victim is standing on (not on the victim). Jeez, that felt evil to write...

Death has been made harder in The Sims 4, but the same tricks (room with no doors) still work. Fire is easier to cause with expansion/game/stuff packs. The only thing I can say is keep trying! You will succeed eventually.
