Death in Sims 4

Hey everyone!

I'm back playing Sims after a year's break and I'm just getting to grips with the Sims 4. I have an elder in my household and just got a message that it's almost her time, so I have a few questions about death (lol) which hopefully more experienced Sims 4 players can answer? :dizzy: Tysm in advance!

SO...

- Once the message appears (It's almost __'s time, make use of these last few days) is there a set time until they die and that's like a warning? Bc my elder's age bar isn't even full yet!
- When they die, does the screen flick over to them like on Sims 3 so you don't miss it happening? What if they die while you're on another lot/area and they're not your active sims rn?
- How do you know when townies who aren't in your household are about to die? My elder has a boyfriend and he died without any warning! And she doesn't seem to care!? No heartbreak / sadness!? On the Sims 3 you always got a warning phonecall when it was about to happen, so how do I get that on 4?
- Can the sims live beyond the age of their agebar like in 3? So could live much longer or die quite fast, depending?
- Do you get their gravestone like on 3 and if so, where do you put it!? xD I see no graveyard...!
- Why are my SIms relationship panels filling up with ghosts and when will they disappear from there!??

That's quite a few questions... But death is always a big part of my play-style bc my families grow, move on, parents die and so on... I play quite fast and get through their lives so I just wondered as I'm new to Sims 4 and it seems dying is quite different to on Sims 3! Thanks so much if you're able to help with any of these! xxx

  • Hey,

So I'm not the experienced player buuuut I can answer your questions to my best knowledge.

Your first question: Well, it kind of depends, if your Sim has the active trait from the bodybuilder aspirations, they will live looooooong after that message, but usually a few days after the Sim without the active trait dies. I think it takes about 2 or 3 days until the bar goes sparkly and then it's another 2 days. It does depend on how the Sim is feeling as well, though. If your elder is feeling uncomfortable a lot, he might die sooner.

Second question: You hear a sound and the grim reaper appears, I'm not a 100% sure if the camera pans to the dying Sim, but I don't think so.
If the Sim dies while you are on another lot, well you just miss that. I hate that about Sims 4. You don't really get notifications about death.

This leads to your third question. As long as your Sim does not witness the death itself or mourns at the grave they just do not care/ do not know about it. I play legacies a lot and I always have to check if the parents that live on another lot have died or if they are still alive.

Next question: Sims with the active trait tend to live wayyy past the agebar.

Next one: You get an urn if the Sim dies inside and a gravestone if the Sim dies outside. You can do with it what you want in build mode. You can even put it in the Sims inventory.

Last one: When a Sim dies they become a ghost, so if your Sim knows a lot of older Sims get ready for mostly ghost in your relationship panel. They do eventually after A few days/weeks fade. But until then you will get calls and invitations and notifications mostly from ghosts.

I hope I was able to help :)
  • Thanks so much for those answers @simlotte ! Really appreciate them.

Yes, the camera not panning is a pain! I was grateful how on the Sims 3 it would alert you - otherwise you could miss a dearly beloved sim dying and they're just gone! I would personally say they still need some updates around this haha - I do legacy games too with long, long family trees and appreciated the phonecalls on the Sims 3... The ones that say "so and so is getting pretty old and won't live forever..." etc. Then you know if a friend is about to die haha

    Thanks so much again :)
