Question: Let's say that I start off with a sim that just died, there is a gravestone and their name on it. At the moment that sim takes one spot in the population. If I release the spirit, then I have the information in the family tree but they no longer count in the population nr.
If the child of that dead sim is culled then the sims above go away as well, but other than that I thought that the information would be safe then?

If you were playing the sim when they passed away, the sim is safe from culling. They will be safe on the family tree.
