Place a wall in build mode, put the diplomas on the wall, then delete the wall. It can be a little tedious if you have lots of diplomas to get rid of but it works.
To save on the amount of walls needed, just turn on the move objects cheat, that way you can just stack them on the wall. I haven't tried this yet, but can they just go into a storage chest? Then deleat the chest.
This doesn't work for me. When walls are deleted with MOO on, the diplomas don't get deleted.
