One would think with the backlash from the money-grabbing scheme that was Battlefront II, EA would learn it's lesson. However it seems to me that they realized they couldn't price gouge those players and instead turned their greed towards simmers. I wish they'd learn that they can do both. They can make quality games AND make money - because it seems right now they think they can only do one or the other. Other studios, other corporations are not having this issue. Other studios, other corporations are making billions of dollars without loot boxes and DLC for their DLC.

Ikr! I mean it's not that I want to hate on EA or Ubisoft for no reason or on principle but it's like they're doing it on purpose... Don't they see that people are turning away from them more and more because of this endlessly greedy behavior? And it's not that they don't have talented, passionate devs working for them, or that they're not having enough money, still they keep getting overshadowed by 1 to 20-men strong indie dev teams who put so much heart and soul into their game, it's shocking to find out how few people actually make them.... I still hope these giants will wake up one day, and let their teams actually make quality products instead of cutting everything into small bits, then selling them off for three of four times the amount they're worth....
Ultimately the problem is short termism which stems from them being utterly blinded by greed. No amount of profit is enough for them, and they'll go to any lengths to get as much as possible. In the short term they'll try to make as much money as possible and they don't care about long term consequences, because they want money, now! They're unable to see or they don't care that they're going to burn themselves out, which is what will happen eventually if they manage to destroy all of their franchises and alienate all of their players. It doesn't take a genius to see that they will eventually go bust. A similar thing happened in the 1980s, when greedy game companies, such as Atari, pushed out really half baked games out one after another to make as much money as possible. It ended up crashing the whole industry and wiping out most game makers. Nintendo then stepped in and almost singlehandedly saved the industry by not being greedy.
But yeah, they don't need to do all of this money grabbing to be successful. Nintendo is doing very well and not a single one of their games has lootboxes. Only very few have DLC. And in the long term Nintendo has future proofed themselves by not destroying their games, their reputation or trust from gamers in the same way. A game analyst said that the difference between now and a few years ago is that big game companies are no longer happy to make money, they now want all of the money.
