In case anyone else is having similar issues - you can d/l the money tree (or the seed) from the gallery, if that's not too cheat-y for you. Check 'rooms,' then over on the top right, sort by hashtags. Try "moneytree" without quotes. You can get all the plants, seeds, collections, everything. You can get #perfectplants too.
