I like what I am seeing in the trailer. I fear for lag on my pc if the snow would actually contain depth, so I am very glad they made it like this. Of course, I also see the difference with The Sims 2 and 3, and I also like the depth better, but it is a matter of choices. I rather have decent gameplay and a game that runs smoothly than realistic looking snow.

That is look at all players as a whole, benefiting both those with more powerful machines, and those with less powerful machines. In my opinion, it is wrong to condition the way the snow worksin a universal mode even to the people with more powerful machines, and who could enjoy the deep snow without absolutely any kind of problem.
I think you are right that there could be an option to choose the snow depth level and I think the developers have considered it. The addition of snow depth would probably also have meant less gameplay objects, because it would have taken more development time. And by the looks of the trailer we are getting lots of activities, like skating, gardening and arranging flowers, snowball fights and water balloon fights, swings, kiddy pools... Some of these have been requested for a while andsome of these probably had to be cut if they gave us snow depth.
