I've played the detective career with two of my sims. One was single mother of a teenager and the other one lived alone. I agree it's great if you need something to fill your sim's days with, but if they have lots to do anyway then a rabbit hole career can feel like a relief. Although you could send them to work through a rabbithole in detective career too...
