Jacques took his wife on their yact and steered it in the middle of the lake. His wife was terrified since she couldn't swim but Jacques reassured she would be fine. When she reached for her husband, Jacques pushed her with all his might and she fell into the water. This theory definitely works for my game! I think I gave at least one of the children the custom trait "Whale Ate My Mother." In my game, the father murdered his wife and went to jail (aka got deleted). So now I just play the children. I created a NAMI club for them (National Association on Mental Illness).
