Different Types of Players

I've never heard about this until I joined this community and so I'm really interested to learn, what are the different types / descriptions of players?

After reading through all of this, I see that my playstyle really depends on what game it is, and my mood. In TS3 at first I enjoyed just playing the sims that were there. Then I realized for some reason there were certain sims I loved, and certain ones I hated. So I'd make a fresh new town and insert all the sims I loved there and go about making them have babies and an extensive family.

In TS4, I haven't really touched most of the prepopulated families and I normally play on the normal lifespan with auto age unplayed sims turned on. So by the time I go to switch to another household, they're mostly all dead. I guess that makes me more of a genealogist. I love bringing up my family tree and seeing it so huge. Also, if my sims cheat, I kill them. It's a horrible habit that I picked up from TS3 since my town was overpopulated and I didn't need them hanging around, but the horrible part is I'm not ashamed of it. :p It's just, if Beth and Andy were together, I / the game put them in a relationship, of which they have an awesome family, and Andy goes on a woohooing spree I can't keep him in the household without giving him the evil eye everytime I play, and that's just not fun.

Edit: The below list is taken from the responses gotten from this thread so far, so if something is missing it's because I haven't seen it yet. Please speak up if you notice one missing as I'd like to have a full list.

Listed Player Types

  • Colonist: replace all sims currently prepopulated in the world with their own creations
  • Builder: replace all items in the world with player's own creations
  • Legacy / Family Player: creates an extensive family tree using only one sim
  • Laid-back: does not take the game seriously, plays for leisure and enjoys using cheats / cc depending upon the necessary purpose
  • Completionist: completes all game "goals" such as careers & aspirations
  • Storyteller: performs actions in-game to create a story of which is written / depicted later
  • Woohoo hound / partyer: enjoys woohooing, enough said :)
  • Deviant: performs interactions just to see what may happen and / or creates a bit of chaos in their sim world
  • Rotational: rotates from household, to household
  • Role-player: takes on a personal role through their sims lives
  • Challenge: enjoys doing sim challenges

    • Storyteller over all, I love telling stories that have some Magic in them, really adds another dimension.
My stories require Rotational Play, I rotate between about 5-9 houses in one save. Colonist, I like to personalize my game as much as I can.
Little Legacy not really many generations but family play. Laid Back, if I really like the Custom content I see, or I see something I know The Developers would never put in the game in eons. Builder, I like to build I love using the sims to map out my house and transform it into my dream Home... whilst Watching HGTV. Roleplayer, I Live Vicariously through my Sims, My simself is my main sim and I'm constantly playing as Him/me, although he's my alter ego... the person I wish I could be, but would get in so much trouble in real life if I was. Deviant/Woohoo hound, NFSW all the way I hate vanilla. and challenge I have so many challenges in mind, Survival/Minecraft/Castaway/The Long Dark, are things I'd like to do.

      I'm everything but a Completionist.
Usually I get the goals done, But I do things my way. I can always use the ignore entitlement cheat and debug cheat if I want it.

EDIT: I suppose I might be a bit of a role-player? But it never feels personal, so I wasn't sure about that one.

Interesting observation. When I think of being a Sims role-player, I don't think of me, personally, living my life as a Sim. I've never done a Simself (and probably never will). Rather, as a role-player, I think of me (the real person) as an actor. The Sim is the role I'm playing. It is my responsibility to help him/her to fulfill whatever it is s/he wants or needs to do. Sometimes, it's scripted (as in, before I start a game, I know this Sim will be a Painter and will join the Painting career). Other times, it's strictly improv. They get a whim and I do my best to help them achieve it.
    • I don't really have a type...I think that I might be a bit of a Story teller? But I don't actually tell the story, I just take pictures and leave that up to everyone else to create for themselves. I mean, I tell them which Sim is which but... outside of that...I got nothing.
