Digital Sketchpad

The item in the game worked for me for about 3 hours, but afterwards was completely unusable. I only have the option to "Paint from Reference," where I take the picture but it doesn't charge money or start the project. It also only sells for 0 simoleons both in the sim's inventory and build mode.

I was hoping this was a feedback thread about the digital sketchpad in general.

As a digital artist, this was a nice item to receive in a patch, but it's not very... realistic?

Like, why do we get charged simoleons for starting a new project on a digital canvas? I create my art for free. Opening a new canvas to draw on is literally free.

The only thing that would cost anything, would be if I printed it out and had to pay for any extra ink and paper. Which I rarely ever do in the first place. Instead I would just upload it online for people to see. (speaking of which, if you click the little dudes in my signature, you'd get brought to my art page)

Maybe publishing art online should be an option! Maybe it would function like a separate social media profile, which you can get followers on! Each new art you publish would gain you a few new followers. If Get Famous is installed, this would also provide fame. If your sim's art is good enough, people online could commission your sim to draw something for them, and that's how you can earn money from digital art.

Followers could also randomly donate to your sim, though that's probably rare. Maybe have the sim be able to create a patreon-like thing to get regular payments from. Stuff like this.

    Did I get carried away?
Sorry, I'm just getting ideas since our sims can actually make digital art now. And digital art is basically my life.
  • @Magdaleena I completely agree. The charging for simoleons doesn't make any sense. Also, with having simstagram it would be somewhat easy to implement some sort of reputation online as an artist. I'm afraid that if we want this stuff to change we'll have to pay for an artist pack :(
  • Hi

    This is a bug.

Please post here: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/OPEN-Sketchpad-Loses-all-menu-choices-except-quot-Paint-from/m-p/7308003#M81685 or press me too.

You need to replace the pad with a new one.

Hi @KellyWhovian as Bug Reports as housed on Answers HQ I will close this thread here but I'd encourage you to select the thread linked by crinrict and add select the "Me Too" button and join in the conversation on that bug.

Hi @Magdaleena, the opening post sets the tone of the discussion and this thread would be a Bug Report thread in effect. If you'd like to have a General Discussion on this I could split your post and create a thread with you as OP to host that discussion if you'd like? Let me know :)
