Dim Interior Lighting (Easy Fix - NOT a glitch)

I noticed when my sims first entered the game and the house that the lighting was so dark. I was afraid there wasn't anything I could do about it. It is not a glitch. The easy fix I found (don't laugh...

I am having a lighting trouble. I have gone as far as to put six ceiling lights in one small room however, the room is still very dark as if there are no lights. I'm assuming this is a glitch but after restarting the game, it was still like this. Any advice?
