Disciplining teen question

I haven't played Parenthood much and have a parent sim whose aspiration requires him to discipline the child, a teen 5 times. I've got the parent sim to level 10 for parenting but only have the options to influence or encourage. Does this mean I have to make the teen do something wrong first (like break curfew) before I can have the parent discipline? I haven't had the teen act out since her personality meters are all at max except for emotional control which I'm working on.

  • the personality meters don't influence the way they act, but yes, they need to misbehave to be disciplined.
  • Thanks @cupid! I'll have her misbehave so her dad can discipline her.
  • Once I was playing a teen who's girlfriend asked him out on a date. It was still early enough, I though it would be ok to send him, or so I thought. Once they ordered the food, the waiter kept dropping their food, and this happened 3 times. Finally they got their food and started to eat it. when his mom sent him a message saying he needed to get home or else (breaking curfew). By the time they got finished eating it was well after midnight. The boy was so afraid to go home, that he found a bed and went to sleep. The next morning he decided that he would finally face what ever was going to happen and go home. When he got home, his parents never said a single word to him, there wasn't even an option for them to discipline him. So I guess he got to dodge a bullet there.

@LaBlue0314, too bad real life isn't like that.:) I know parents who put canned goods next to the front door (so you could hear them fall when the door was opened) and slept in the living room to catch their teens coming in after curfew.

  • I'm playing on PS4 and I've noticed that if a parent encourages good behaviour it counts towards 'discipline a child/teen 5 times'. Not sure if it's a bug or if it's the same for PC too?
  • Thanks @ThePocketWeasel, I think it does since I got two disciplines without the teen doing anything wrong, so dad must have encouraged her to do homework or something at some point.
