DNA & family trees in TS4

Starting this thread with the upgraded family trees and plenty of genetics to debeate, in mind. I'm currently busy preparing families for the R&L pack.

In TS4 I think sims just pass on one gene per feature, and the sims's gene will be either from father or mother.  Because dyed hair will be passed on too, I mostly make sure to make notes of my sim's genetic hair color, because the game doesn't seem to keep track on it, but will pass on blue hair. Most of my female sims will not dye their hair while still having babies...

Did this change?

I see so many weird dna results in the family trees representing lore. They could be explained if we had two genes from each parent, but seems impossible if we only have one gene per parent.

Also, how happy are you wioh the family tree upgrade? I love it, althugh some of my 10 years old trees are a bit messed up - I can live with that. It seems the game struggles a bit if one parent dies and the widow/er remarries. I found one case where my sim's stepmother is his genetic mother (stepmother is even younger than him), meaning all her family is listed as true relatives, which they are not. It might be caused by my save being old, and me designing some of the family relations in CAS rather than through regular play. And, maybe those who died eight RL years ago were culled, breakin the tree. I'm sure it will work better from here and onwards.

  • Hm, I'm currently working on the Capp family.

We don't know anything about Tybalt Capp's wife, do we? She is not listed in the family tree shown in misc videos. But, Tybalt is read haired, and his 3 children Beatrice, Celeste and Virgilio all have different hair colors (brown, black, blond). Based on only one hair gene from each parent, and the fact that none of the kids have red hair, technically Tybalt must have had the children with 3 different females? All dead? Some of the childreen might of course have dyed their hair, but 2 of them? Could it be that Virgilio originally had black hair (ref his beard being black), and  could Beatrice be originally redhaird, but dying it brown? If so, Tybalt's late(?) wife had black hair, and he might have been married just once.

I'll need to see the in game family tree regarding each child's mother to complete my task. Any imput appreciated :)

Technically alot of the dead Capp as well as Thebe ancestors from the sims 2 have a wide variety of different coded hair colors (Ex: Celopatra Capp had brown hair according to SimPE before she died of old age) which in theory could be where Beatrice, Celeste and Virgilo get their hair colors from. Unfortunately they don't appear on the Sims 4 family tree to make that connection.

  • I'm busy creating dynasties. It seems like the system is raher strict on who is invited, I often think Head's siblings would be natural members, but that might because my Houses are older and siblings are the children of Head's parents, who once were Head.

Now I came accross another surprise. Head (green) invites son and son's 2 childeren, ignoring son's wife, although they are indeed married and they all live in the same house. Left half o the picture below. Christoph's other son was also ignored, but I guess that is because he was already member of another dynasty.

The wife had one son from before she married intoi this House, could it be that the game gets it wrong when a sim has more than one partner? I can pretend that Head of this dynasty was a Priest most of his life, and he might exclude daughter in-law because she got her first child without being married...

Edit: It happened again in another dynasty. In both cases the ignored wife is Head's daughter-in-law, and now I think it's by design. I hope when Heir's son becomes next Head, he can invite his wife into the dynasty. If so, it means members are found horizontically only on Head's level, the rest only vertically.

Edit II: I'm learning from failing! It seems like only the closest family is added when the dynasty is created. There might be more possible members if you click "add members". I thought that would be for later. In one case I noticed Head had not invited her brother. He lives in a different world, so I though that was the reason. By "add member" he could be added. I then did something else in m y game and retuerned to the dynasty UI a bit later. Then I could "add member" again and found the brother's wife and children. They were greyed out though, with the message that relation to Head was too low. Which makes sense. So, relation has an impact, and even if you don't find a specific relative, s/he might be an option the next time you check.
