Do i stick with the new layout or keep the old layout?

New one. It will make the house feel fresh and new.

The new layout looks much better.

While the new layout looks better aesthetically and more cohesively (you can tell what each area is used for), you gotta ask yourself if you prefer an open layout?

Personally I prefer an open layout between living/dining and kitchen area, I hate walls down when playing the Sims, so I always have them up, but if there's a lot of walls you lose your sim more easily.

I like the old layout better, but that's me.

On the TV soap opera the first layout is from i did used to enjoy seeing that interior quite a lot when i was a regular viewer of the show which is why i built it originally. However, when there's been a full house i've struggled with only three bedrooms and twice the amount of kids. Also, as the houses they use for exterior shots on the show come up for sale in real life i've changed those the "Neighbours" interior's to match the real life interior's.

As this is my sim self's house and his children's childhood home i can't seem to want to change the interior 100%

Or alternatively you could "mesh" those two together.

I personally would keep the original green open:



And from the new layout I would get rid of orange
and I would do blue as a divider or a half wall.
I like the column so I would keep that but I would choose a regular column.

Thank you for your suggestions. I played with the new layout for an hour last night but i still wasn't feeling it. I changed up some furniture and while it was an improvement, i still couldn't see my sim self living in the new layout. Something was missing from my build that i couldn't put a finger on.

I may still tinker with the first layout as i would still really like a fourth bedroom.

Sadly, the actual layout of the house is cramped. I really like the large, open living space you gave in the first photo. The dining area is also roomy. The real-life layout, while nice, gives me a sense of claustrophobia. I don't like cramped spaces.

I do prefer the layout in the first photo myself the more i go back to it. It's the house where my sim self's children were raised and grew up in and i don't think i want to get rid of that feel completely.
