The only times I might intervene and cause a death is if I'm doing a challenge or something short term. I always think of these as temporary games and get deleted once the challenge is done.
On my regular saves, I really get invested in my sims and I don't purposely cause deaths or anything too tragic. I think the only time was when I downloaded a sim from the gallery as I needed a maxed skill retail employee. She turned out to be a stalker, always appearing where my married sims happened to be, and always ringing up the husband. They had no romance bar and friendship was in the red, yet she calls saying something like opposites attract!? She just got too creepy for me but I couldn't be bothered orchestrating her death, so I just deleted her. What can I say, I'm very protective!
