Do you give other sim households careers? Should I?

I do give most of my unplayed sims a specific job, so that I don't have them showing up in random jobs that don't seem like a good fit for them. (I don't give them a job if I'm ok with them showing as vendors or bouncers or whatever.) Also, like @elanorbreton, sometimes I want my played sims to have particular coworkers.
