It depends on what I'm doing story-wise. If I for some reason decide I want a sim to go to university, I'll let them graduate as early as possible. Or if I want to just have them ruthlessly skill up. On the other hand, if I want them to be gone for several hours a day, or if I want them to meet a particular sim in school--especially if that other sim is currently a child and I need their high school years to overlap--then I'll keep them in school.
