Short answer: No. I usually play a character I can relate to. Nearly always a sim with the same gender, skin color as me and similar background. But this sim is not me, just someone who resembles me. And who can do all the things I can't like fly a rocket ship or perform magic.
Long story: I played a sim self in sims 1 and loved it. This simself remained single and mainly tested the careers and magic town. My very first sim in sims 2 was a simself. She got married to single dad. Once she was about to turn elder and her stepchild was grown up I realised I was not ready to play out the rest of the story. I feel uncomfortable to play out my simself future once it reaches a certain point in life. I said to myself never again and that decision still stands.
