Honestly not only do I appreciate the minor challenge they bring to the game (pets will misbehave autonomously, which gives me SOMETHING to react to and do) I also find them invaluable in my play. Like, they are incredibly useful. They bring up a toddler’s social/attention when parents are busy. Playing with a laser pointer with a cat will raise both fun and social with the efficiency of woohoo, but without the 1. hygiene loss 2. sleeping afterwards, or 3. having to sync up two busy sims to find the time. A good relationship with a pet is like a sadness syphon. Someone die and you don’t cheat to improve moods? Just hug it out with the dog for a while.
I love the pet gameplay. Like, there’s more I would ALSO like, but it’s one of my staples in play. I keep a pet legacy going alongside my sim legacy, and when new kittens are born or a sims childhood cat dies, it really helps me stay invested.
