The Sims 4 Get Famous seems like such a FUN expansion pack full of activities I cannot wait to play with.But I am seeming to get a little confused on this whole Expansion Pack or Game Pack category mishap thing.So, let me get to what I am wanting to discuss.When I first saw The Sims 4 Vampires, I was excited to see an expansion pack, since we are getting a new life state and a new neighborhood. (Spoiler alert) Turns out it was a GAME PACK. Which I understood, it was a very narrowed down version of a new activity in the game, that only has ONE goal, not necessarily having the goal of 'expanding' the game. Now we have Get Famous. Ooh! Yay, an acting career! A game pack.Oh, wait, it's an expansion?I'm a little confused.I hope I'm not standing alone when I feel that Vampires & Get Famous are specifically having ONE main goal, which is having vampires and having an acting career. The two games follow the same steps in your gameplay process. I understand that Get Famous offers more activities and hairs as to why it's more of an expansion, but I don't know if it is something that will affect my game EVERY day without any of my effort. (i.e cats & dogs showing up around my neighborhood, seasons taking it's part in the world)...At the end of the day I am MORE than grateful to have another expansion and CELEBRITIES! But, I don't know. I just want to have a discussion about what really defines an expansion pack nowadays against a game pack.Thanks for reading! <3 :)

Game packs usually focus on one theme and go in-depth. Since it seems like we only get the active actor career with the accompanying fame system, some simmers feel like it more closely resembles a game pack. The actor career even comes with tons of different sets and gameplay. It does come with some other stuff like vaults, drones, and VIP venues though.So far I do agree with this assessment. It doesn't feel broad enough to warrant being an EP. Maybe I'm still unaware of certain things, but this is how I feel right now.

It seems like a big GP or small EP. To really be a good EP they need to have ... more. A much better world or active modeling career or something. Personally I'm not a fan of the random objects like the pond of the vault. I get fame = money, but I don't see how they really fit well into the whole game and it seems like they were thrown in to bulk it up with little substance.

I still think it leans towards a large game pack from what I have seen so far. I am going to buy it on release day like I have done each pack but this one is not one pack that I have salivated excitedly over so far.

What I have seen has exceeded my expectations, I feel like the new gameplay objects aren’t getting enough attention, like the new drones, media table to record and upload videos, there’s also a mix table, plus the way this pack expands on not only the base game but also almost every single other pack is a HUGE thing for me. This is truly an EXPANSION pack, because it expands the game beyond just the base game.

A game pack would have probably focused solely on acting and ignored all the other careers when setting up the Fame system.

(New world + one active career + a bundle of CAS/BB) - (reuse the perk/reputation system - reuse of the active career - recolour/reshape of existing BB) = New world + a bundle of CAS/BB (+/-)

I would say it is in between but more towards the GP, because I will probably will have fun with it for a short period in a relatively small world & being an actor.. But, since the perk & reputation can affect the existing careers, I'm leaning towards the EP. TBH, I don't even believe that we're getting this EP. I was expecting that we'll get the University/Education pack. I would prefer my Sims to be educated than to be famous.. :p

I think of GF as an Expansion because the world is slightly larger then the GP worlds. In the meantime I hope an actual Gamepack is next and as early as February.

It'll probably be a while before I have a Sim suitable for acting. My first Sim destined for fame is a teen musician (he maxed out Piano before aging up so he's now working on guitar and continuing to work on karaoke); once he hits the top of the Entertainer career (musician branch) he'll go into music production. I'm thinking his younger sister may be his PR agent; I remember from the last time I did PR that Sims in that career can promote other Sims, so she can do that for her brother.

At the moment it feels somewhere between GP & EP with the info I currently know about it. If it had one more career(active, work-from-home, or regular) I think it would feel more like an EP. I like that it seems to have a lot of build/buy/CAS stuff, but that doesn't make an EP.
Some say having a new world make it an EP, but we got Newcrest, with 15 lots, for free in an update and GP's have also come with worlds while some EP's don't. I don't think there is a specific criteria, but more about personal feelings and content. SP's have the least content, GP's a little more, and EP's more than that.
We've also gotten some really good GP's so that possibly makes the EP's feel a little less than they are.

It feels like en EP to me with everything adding up. The major thing is the reputation/fame system which ties in with previous game careers/skills. Expansion packs expand the whole game which it does.
