Do you think Get Famous fits better in the Game Pack category?

The Sims 4 Get Famous seems like such a FUN expansion pack full of activities I cannot wait to play with.

But I am seeming to get a little confused on this whole Expansion Pack or Game Pack category mishap thing.

So, let me get to what I am wanting to discuss.

When I first saw The Sims 4 Vampires, I was excited to see an expansion pack, since we are getting a new life state and a new neighborhood.
(Spoiler alert) Turns out it was a GAME PACK. Which I understood, it was a very narrowed down version of a new activity in the game, that only has ONE goal, not necessarily having the goal of 'expanding' the game.

Now we have Get Famous. Ooh! Yay, an acting career! A game pack.
Oh, wait, it's an expansion?
I'm a little confused.

I hope I'm not standing alone when I feel that Vampires & Get Famous are specifically having ONE main goal, which is having vampires and having an acting career. The two games follow the same steps in your gameplay process. I understand that Get Famous offers more activities and hairs as to why it's more of an expansion, but I don't know if it is something that will affect my game EVERY day without any of my effort. (i.e cats & dogs showing up around my neighborhood, seasons taking it's part in the world)...

At the end of the day I am MORE than grateful to have another expansion and CELEBRITIES! But, I don't know. I just want to have a discussion about what really defines an expansion pack nowadays against a game pack.

Thanks for reading! <3 :)

  • Yep, Get Famous looks soooo like a GP rather then an EP AND They are charging us EP prices for GP content. I'm so sick of playing this same game with EA. The amount of lots in the new "world" is laughable, in a sad way. How can they justify only 12 lots most are already filled up with pre-made lounges and junk. Really?? Only 5 residential lots? WTH.
I get it, they want the game to run smoothly on laptops, but it really just sucks for the people with actual gaming desktops who just want a good Sims game to play.

    Broad = / = Depth

Does this pack lacks broadness? Yes it was. But for depth I don't think so. I feel that this pack has depth and the teputation system is going to change this. We have not yet to see this in action, and so far it will add to my gameplay just like how the reputation added more upoutunities to play with Sims 2 Apartment Life EP. They could
have made the Acting Career as a rabbit hole then add another big feature, and the rescources went on the acting lot will go to a new livable place. But many people will be dissapointed, that the Acting Career was just a rabbithole.

This feels to me like EP2, EP4, and EP5. Introduce one new system that impactd gameplay and add a new feature based on the theme. Get Together had a club system and the rest revovlve arounds it. Does it feel small? Yes, but when you play it you will be limited by your own imagination. Cats and Dogs added well two pets and a Vet System into the game. A rehash of retail? Yes, similar you run it, earn it, but different to others with potions, pet animations, etc. Seasons? It only introduces the Weather System and the Calendar System. The rest of the content revolves around the two, yet it impact the game. It will be the same here for me. A new system again with extra feature. Two syatems that worked together, Repuataion and Fame, along witg Acting. The rest of the content revolves around them.

This is what I feel on Sims 4 EP. Small yet provide huge impact on my game.
(except perhaps Get To Work has three new active career and a retail system. They tried to do much, that the aliens are left out(no more brain powers and reparing things through minds, plus no more invasions). Retail was good, I still create shopping stores, but it lacks depth. Shopping in a retail store is not exciting, and lack of retail items like clothing racks, etc. That pack is great but atill need depth to flesh out. The retail system still has a huge inpact on me)
(Also City Living. it didn't have any system that would have impact my game outside of San Myshuno. Apartments would be a great new system. I am glad that the new system that are being introduced are not locked in the world. Think of it, City Living would be a huge Game Changer if apartments was buildable just like Seasons. Like GTW, they tried to do so many things at once. Happy they are not doing this anymore and are moree keen on GT type EP's

CL does have the semi-active careers, where you can send your Sim to work or have them "work from home" with a few small tasks. I use a set of mods that adds the WFH options to many of the base game careers, and they've definitely breathed new life into them for me. The new "style influencer" coming with the patch is one of those types of careers. So I'd disagree that CL didn't have a system that impacts the game outside of San Myshuno. I could see down the road patching in WFH options for the base game careers now that we have that type of career in packs other than CL (Seasons and now GF).

CL also introduced the lot trait system. I was excited when we first heard about it, but it's kind of easy to forget.
  • What bothers me the most it that half of this pack if not more is just reworked code from previous EP's. And I get that, but....there's not a single new thing. They even recycled woohoo animations from previous packs....what is that? That's so bad.... and I think this is he only Expansion Pack with no new venue, pretty sure no one caught that.

I don't know how all this recycled coding translates to 40€ retail. There is a new slate of animations and interactions which is great but still...

And reputation seems like a two way paragon or renegade bar. I was hoping there was more to it. Like reputation levels and titles. I guess my sim won't be called the cheater of the town or the meanest of them all.
  • the gurus have explained that and you just explained it yourself too so... what's the question again?

I still see it as an EP.

CAS and build/buy mode are pretty vast.
    New career
Two gameplay objects you can freelance for money as well and the music production table world in conjunction with the DJ table.
Fame System that extends to other careers and skills.
    New World
    New Skills
    Unlockable New walk cycles

Though still haven't seen everything in the pack to fully judge it.

Though personally I guess value wise for developers is probably what defines that's a ep, go or stuff packs. The number of objects in a pack doesn't define it. Then you have to consider people that voice act adding new lines of dialogue plus new animations as well.

Stuff packs were pretty inconsistent. Think the one that has the lowest amount of stuff to date is perfect patio?

There's definitely a couple of things recycled in the pack, but there's a lot of new things added to it it seems so minor not to mention previous games recycled a lot of animations themselves.

  • it is an expansion pack. But a small one, with the lack of more NEW active careers, and a 11 lot world along with fame :*
