@LiELF I think that the main difference is that I don’t see everything from the devs as promises from people who just make the game for fun and who are just trying to please us. EA is mainly about marketing and advertising and I see advertisings everywhere and claiming that they do everything for their customers. But of course they don’t. They are just trying to sound that way because they want to sell their product.
Simmers here IMO behave too much like they believe that the devs just state their own opinions and make the game for fun just to please us. But this is for me to see not true at all. Instead they just follow orders from EA’s managers and marketing experts who just want the game to sell better.
An example is the current campaign on Twitter where EA must have told the devs to write something every day but only release the information slowly and graduately such that their followers become more and more exited and interested until Seasons finally will be released. EA told them to be on Twitter instead of the forum because EA knows that the forum users will buy Seasons anyway. But on Twitter they will be followed by young gamers who don’t own TS4 yet but often just have played the Sims Mobile a little. Therefore EA hopes that the gurus can make those young gamers interested in TS4 too and the gurus almost certainly have received advices from EA’s marketing experts about how to do it.
We saw in 2013 how EA wanted a lot of extra content for TS3 released just before TS4 was released. Most of this extra content was released after TS4 had been announced in the beginning of May 2013 and was expected to be released early in 2014 until EA in November 2013 announced that TS4 wouldn’t be released until the fall of 2014 anyway. I think that EA in the same way will release a lot of new content for TS4 until just before TS5 will be released and I think that recent statements from SimGuruGrant and other gurus about a lot more future content for TS4 is about this. They likely just want to advertise for all this extra planned content. But if they actually increase the amount of yearly new content for TS4 in the rest of 2018 (and maybe even in the beginning of 2019) then I think that the reason again just is that EA wants to earn extra money from the many simmers who won’t just switch to TS5 from the beginning anyway.
So I mainly just am sceptical to the statements from the gurus in the same way that I always am to statements in advertising because I know that the gurus are used by EA as advertisers too.
