Do you use mods?

So I was vanilla for a long time, and still am for most of the time. I really have only tried some out the last week or two on one self contained save. However, I have played mods in other games. Sims 4 isn't the kind of game I would usually consider a mod play candidate (for my personal taste).

So long as a game is sandbox-y and has official cheats, I really don't tend to need or want any because I use it to usually fix tedious things/force games to be a sandbox where there is no sandbox play. Plus 4 (and others like it) updates way too frequently and has nothing Steam workshop level easy to make me really want to fool with it.

When I considered mods for anything larger than that, such as adding mechanics, I realized the scope of things I'd like to change would be annoying to find and maintain. It put me off for a very long time, until I just decided to wing it when I was very bored. I'd only touch things I knew something about and address issues that particularly bother me (such as household limit).

My experience? Mixed. I mean, I did enjoy myself, but my found mod couldn't really surpass the game design for household limits so I have to be careful using it. I noticed a number more dropped actions than usual, too. I plan to delete this test save and remove it all when Cottage Living drops. I may touch it again. May not. *shrug*

So you are not the only one that plays vanilla, but I'd be lying if I said I do not find 4 lacking in some ways that made me bored enough to try them. Beyond stability mods, I wouldn't do that for 3.

@ArcherDK I'm still salty about Bloodborne because I really, really want to play it but have refused to buy a Playstation just for one game. They had all the Dark Souls games on PC for crying out loud, why not Bloodborne? :s


Anyhow, mods all the way. I might not always have many of them but I just absolutely love how I can tweak specific things and tailor the game for my interests. They are also a great way to extend the longevity of the game whenever I grow bored. For me, modding has played a hugely significant part thorough the series (minus the first one but, then again, that was a different time and I never even got expansions for it). With TS4 it has been less about CC and more about mods affecting gameplay because that's where most of my grievances are.

its more like I see the appeal of mods and i used to use some in past which i sometimes miss but I don't personally really use mods anymore because i can't bother maintaining mod folder and i really don't want to risk my current save that is probably my longest save yet by giving it more ways to break

I'm not curious :D , I pretty much know what the mods do and what the most popular one are offering and for now consider it too much trouble with little gain. Usually I do use mods in other games but only when I'm playing a game that has run its course, so it's more like "No for now, but considering it in the future when there will be no more official updates... maybe" closer to "No, I see little reason for them" but i don't play on console.

I have a couple of cute mods, but only if I’m in story mode.

When I’m building and plan to share on the gallery I take out all mods and CC.

That's why I worded it like that. For those who are curious, yes but also for those who would consider using them.

I have used mods before, but not currently.

Haven't needed. I did try Mccc but again I enjoyed my game without so I removed. I do have 2 & 3 modded though so who knows what I will do when they are finished adding to 4. Not against just not having the need or even want at this time.

My playstyle is free will off and they mucked that up in this game, therefore I need at least Self configureable autonomy (now part of MCCC) and SelectablePets to prevent sims from wrestling control from me, especially in large households.

Everything else is just nice to have, like children being able to play pingpong, or all the vehicles moddlers have made from the basic bicycle (motorbike, wheelchair, ATV, horse, I even have a rideable Kelpie on base of the aqua zipper, it's amazing). Things like "choose your helmet" help individualize sims, "Show buff gained from soak baths right there in the pie menu" is helpful, "Spar for everyone" is great for storytelling, then there are some cheaty mods like "Power Nap" (but I have full control over how cheaty they are in practise because I can just opt not to use the option)... basically mods turn an already enjoyable game into one that I want to continue to play for years.

My most important occult is android, a human looking servo. Since mods are always in danger of getting discontinued, I create my androids with cheated satisfaction points to buy reward traits like no hunger, no sleep and antiseptic. So that's something I do not trust mods with.

I use mods. For me, the game is alright in build, buy, and CAS, but actual live mode gameplay is lacking. I prefer negative consequences and for my sims to have more individual personalities that I just can't get without mods. I don't use too many, though, just ones that improve the emotion system and add personality.
