Do your Scientist Sims go to University?

Do your ‘professional’ and technician Sims need to get a degree in order to have a career in your games?
Specifically do your Scientist Sims require a qualification, in your virtual world?

  • I'm planning to do every career once without a degree and once with, from some sort of completionist compulsion. So unless there's no degree that will do anything for the career whatsoever I will eventually have someone get a degree for it.

I believe that a job like a scientist would require some college, maybe even a degree...in the sims. (The active scientist career is one that I have loved since GTW was released.) The sims who do go are doctors, judges, teachers, I like the higher tiers of jobs, that's why I send them.

Now my foodies do not go to college, neither do my musicians or my writers or comedians. I believe these careers need natural talent and college is unnecessary. The same could be said for the baristas, construction workers, lifeguards, etc.

This is interesting. I’ve had two chefs go to university, mainly because I wanted to experience the Culinary Arts degree and also get the degree-associated salary benefits. But I can see not putting chefs through university. Chefs do usually go to some kind of culinary school IRL though, so maybe in the future I could simulate that in some way.
I also understand about musicians/writers/comedians, but I know that many IRL go to university.

But I guess it’s down to personal choice. I’m not a major “realism” player with my game, I usually send my Sims to university for the salary benefits. Perhaps I could have it be a “personal choice” thing, so some budding writers may want to go to university (for the experience, say) and others might not.
  • It depends on whether I want to spend a lot of time on those sims to send them to college or not. When I send them straight to work, anyway, I tend to imagine that they are studying in parallel with the first levels of that career. I do this for scientists, doctors, lawyers, engineers...
