Do your sims ever die unexpectedly?

I'm playing lots of houses, an at times I find myself thinking that sims live for too long. Their general life stages are fine, them dropping dead after turning 80 years old is fine, too. I just wish that some of them would find an excuse to die anytime sooner. Not necessarily unexpectedly, but some of that too. Some from a visible or un known decease, or not. It gets a bit wrong when they all die at a predictable age.

I know we have deceases, and we have deaths by numerous reasons like electro shock, laughter and embarrassment. I had one sim die from laughter, and it felt quite refreshing as it added a new twist to that household's story. But I wish we also had genetic stuff, like being born with possibility of dying from xxx, and you never know whether it will happen or what age. And there could be a 50% chance of passing the risk on to children, so you would not even know who (might have the dna thing). With such a thing there would at least be a chance of some surprises. I have rules for heritage etc, but hardly get any fun from it beyond the basics.

Ever since 2014 I had only one sim die from electro. With 650 currently played sims in my save, and double that to include all my sims of the past, 1 sim is not a lot... Eating that poisoned "puffer fish?" voluntarily, sounds like suicide.

How about you? Do your sims drop like flies, or do they seem to live forever? Would you fancy more death surprises in the family?

  • I did install a mod to increase the chances of death when repairing electronics years ago. Immediately Patchy bit the dust while repairing a washing machine in the basement. I tried to save his urn to my library but his ghost didn't stay attached.

This is why I actually like Neighborhood Stories' accidental deaths.
Even though every once in a while I get angry about who it chose!
  • I can't remember the last time a sim died unexpectedly, they hardly die from old age even.

But in my game, the NPCs are dying off like crazy...per the neighborhood stories. I think it's great, my spellcasters love going to the bars on Wednesday nights, that's when it's Ghost night. I love dedeathifying adults and young adults. For obvious reasons, I won't bring back elders. o:)
  • Yes, sometimes. Very recently, in fact, my Main Character abruptly froze to death (AFTER he got back inside.) He was temporarily stuck; I forget how I got him freed but then he died upon getting back into the warmth of inside. Unheard of, really. I was stunned, to say the least. I felt the initial jolt of suddenly losing him like that, but then I lost all feeling. I ended up writing an obit for him while in this state, as I have been sharing my Sims' story for quite some time, now. Realizing it was, indeed, a glitch, I decided to do a rollback (or game save recovery). I ended up writing another chapter about how the press got it wrong and he didn't die but was released in the wee hours from the hospital. I have gone forward from there.
  • I use a Sims 2 style electrodution mod so my Sims do sometimes die of that.

There's a very in depth mod for deathly illnesses here:

I play rotationally, so I have turned off temperature effects for sims as otherwise my sims I'm not playing with can decide to freeze or overheat to death. Yup, this has happened to me once.

In addition, murphy beds can truly cause random deaths. There is no moodlets or other things required to have it happen. The only ways to prevent it is to either upgrade the murphy bed or not to buy it at all.

Lastly, when you have a sim become a werewolf, the last stage will have your sim's hunger need decay super fast. I almost had my sim die by starvation by accident! Even the vampire turning period and Selvadorada curses don't have the hunger need decay as fast. So yeah, I guess some players had the accidental death by starvation come from this.
