Sims being able to freely travel between all worlds is one of my favorite features of Sims 4!
For most of my saves, I kind of have a group of worlds that I consider being "near" my sim's residential world, and other worlds that I consider as being "far away" from the world they live in. How I group the worlds depends on my intent for the story and my concept for the overall "world". Typically, sims will make day trips to the worlds that are "near" them, for all kinds of errands or social activities, but when I send them to the "far away" worlds I either use a vacation lot rental, a generic lot as a resting place, or have them camp out in a tent.

Spoiler
Some common "near" groupings I'm currently using are:
Oasis Springs + Del Sol Valley + Strangerville
San Myshuno + Newcrest + Willow Creek + Magnolia Promenade
Mount Komorebi + San Myshuno
Forgotten Hollow + Windenburg + Brindleton Bay
Windenburg + San Myshuno + Newcrest
Windenburg + Britechester + Glimmerbrook
I like that there is no official map, so I am free to imagine the geography however I wish, and can imagine it differently for different stories.
