We need to have a look at the other Sci Fi worlds that EA have made for the sims. For most of them they draw a lot of visual inspiration from popular sci fi movies.
In the Sims 3 Into the Future they got inspiration for the the Hunger Games in the way the town looks and the clothing of the future residents, there is even a mining area with worn looking housing.
I thought Sixam was at least original until I rewatched Avatar...
In the Sims 4 Strangerville people argue that the story is based on Stranger Thing but visually the world is very similar to the in the first Thor movie. That movie even has a lab in a crater built around an alien object and Men in Black confiscating sensitive material.
You go back as far as Lunar Lake to find a sci fi world that's original.
So based on earlier world the new game pack draw visual inspiration from the star wars franchise but the gameplay will be more generic space themes. Maybe we will get the chance to create a space colony.
