Does Seasons mark the beginning of story progression?

I hope they bring it back. Story progression made my game more immersive and the worlds feel real. I want my Sims friends and acquaintances to have lives outside their interactions with my my household. And the only mods I use are pose mods, anything else ruins my game, so gameplay mods are not an option.
