I was just wondering: Does the game continue even after you have quit the game? As in, do the Sims continue on living their lives even after I have exited the game? It seems unlikely, but I think it might be true. My Sims always seem to be at different positions when I start up the game again. It might just be a slip of my mind or something, but to be on the safe side, I am putting out this question. I prefer my Sims to stay frozen in time, so at least I know exactly what they are doing all the time.

No, all processing of your sims and their world stops when you quit and starts where you left off - almost. The only thing is, sometimes your sims will no longer be in the middle of what they were doing when you left them. Sometimes the game will have made them forget what they were doing and be standing outside their house when you restart the game. Sometimes they might be in a different mood too. But all long term progress like relationships and skills will be just how you left them.

No. This isn't Sims Freeplay. :) They don't continue to do things when you exit out.

If you play rotationally (with different households), then yes but only when you're not playing that household. The game doesn't whatsoever make your sims live when you don't have the game on.

I'm starting to believe it does. Because when I put my game on pause it's not really paused they keep moving around sometimes. It's only for a few seconds but still pause should be instant. Something odd I have been noticing since I send some Sims to a particular shop/store in my game. When I haven't played and load the game to send a new Sim there to buy something to eat there is always something different left out for the other Sims to eat. Since I'm the one who built it, had Sims cook there to provide food for sale and send Sims there several times everytime I play almost then I know what food is left out, and or none at all. However, it's really weird to reload the lot and go back to find a plate of oatmeal cookies centered in a table when none of my Sims bought them and or placed them there. It isn't the first time in the last month or so. Not always baked goods but recent dishes had them stock for sale before turning it back over to NPCs, like dinner foods setting out on a table. My Sims are too poor to buy food and leave it on a community lot, and if they do place in world I make them put it back in inventory and take it home. And oatmeal cookies isn't something my Sims would have purchased and left out because I can't stand them. lol So, either Sims are going there cooking while my game is off and placing food on those tables, and or Sims are going there while I'm in another part of the game nowhere near it, and they are stealing food and putting it on the tables, and or this game is messed up. :p ETA: Another example, it's rare I send any of my Sims to the library, very rare, lol, since they can buy books at home etc. or I don't fill those whims to go to one. But anyway, loaded up the game yesterday had to send a Sim to library to use a pc, books on the floor, like someone made a mess. Last time any of my Sims were there was late at night and he/she slept there but didn't leave books all over the floor.See, Sims living their lives behind my back while the pc is off. ;) And if not who put all those books on the floor and when because as I said last time my Sims went there they were alone since no other Sims would show up, but next time it's messed up. I guess that's for the librarian to have something to do,....but it's weird since I know what gets left where and by who, and to load the game and things like that to be laying around that have to be purchased...hm...

I play rotationally, but still...there’s SO MUCH movement! Today I logged in to discover my city dwelling housewife had gone on the lam and made it all the way to Oasis Springs on some deserted road! ?? And this is with me putting them on pause before saving twice, hoping to keep them kinda still.

Note: the other two Sims in the household were exactly where I left them, at the same time - only the housewife escaped. We should all be so lucky!

If you play rotationally and you do not want your sims to change while you play other households, then you need to change your game options to only age active household. That way the only changes to your family are the ones you are playing. Your non-active households will be npc while you play other households but when you go back to your other houses, they are more or less where you left them. Keep in mind this will stop them from aging. I play rotationally with aging turned off for everyone but the current household I am playing, and I never have an issue with sims in weird spots. Most of the time I save & exit once everyone goes to sleep. When I open my game, my sims might be standing but as soon at it goes live, they all go get back in bed.
