dogs in apartments

It is a bit tricky. It would have been handy to have like puppy training mats where the dogs could relieve themselves without making too much mess. The only work around I found was to take the dog for a walk every day (or night in the case of my vampire...) and instruct the dog to do their business while downstairs. Being responsible pet owners, my city dwelling Sims immediately clean up.

I almost felt like the patio should count as "outside" but the Sim dogs don't behave that way..

There doesn't seem to be any pathing for the dog (or toddler) to use the elevators. If you are able to use mods, then you should lookup LittleMsSam's "Elevator Fix for Toddler & Pets" mod which corrects the problem and allows pets to go potty normally outside.

I don't know how often their modded objects break with patches though.

I mean, having lived in urban apartments, I would not want to send my dog (or toddler) outside from an apartment on their own.
Also, there are leash laws in like every city neighborhood right?
I feel like it's better immersion to have to leash your dog and go out together.

@aaronrulz I know I thought the same at first. As a city dweller with a small dog, I always used wee pads, (almost everyone here does for small dogs). Like @SimplyJen found, I found Ravasheen potty pads like a month before it came out for public release. Very weird because it's something that should come with cats and dogs. There is the pile of newpapers, but it doesnt function like a place for them to go potty. I was trying ot train them with that the whole month waiting for it's release.
It's annoying because even owning pets in houses, when you ask them to potty, they go right on the porch and you still have to mop it up or step in it accidentally. Even sometimes I has to mop landscape- Like I don't understand how natural ground wouldn't absorb that. So I use the grass pads on natural landscape even in houses in the suburbs. They should fix that. I liked in the sims 1, there was a fire hydrate, and you just click it to tell them to go, and they just go. I thought that was a sweet touch, because, when you live in the city, dogs always naturally go on fire hydrants because all the other dogs do and they want to cover they scent with theirs for innate doggy territorial instincts.

@Caerfinon I had that mod, but never sent my dog out without me. I truly love all of Little Miss Sam's mods, but somehow they all dont really work with my computer anymore. Some updates broke them and I dont know which file to take out.

@NRowe apartments with a terrace are the best. I usually use the grass pad from RSVN there and asking them to go on the pad in that sense always works.

@LeucosiaX many of the LMS mods have been updated for the latest patches. On the website you can sort the various mods by update date to see if the versions you have are older and need to be replaced. (https://lms-mods.com/)

@Caerfinon I know - I do. When I first go the sims 4 in 2021, I quickly caught on the Little Miss Sams and loaded up a lot of her mods. Then I realized I didnt know what was the game or a mod, as new updates began to replace her ideas and mods, (like take out delivery food,...) so I uninstalled all her mods to play some what vanilla for a while. I missed some of her mods, so when i tried to reinstall them again, even the updated mods, updates kept happening and breaking them.

I was on their discord, and they said we had to remove certain files, forgot which in particular because it was around cottage living's release, and I did. But there was a swarm of updates breaking the game, I couldnt risk it anymore.

Even this weekend, I added auto employee and my sims would freeze up at the market tables with the new chef stuff game play. I mean frozen like not do anything and no reset could help it. I took it out and everything was better.

That's probably for the best then. Mods can run differently on different computers for a lot of reasons. Things work fine on my gaming PC, but not at all well on my laptop.

I think it's designed this way on purpose. It IS harder to keep a dog in a city flat than in the countryside. Just ask my Diego Lobo and his 4 pink/black big poodles. Like everything else - even his only child - he might claim they are an art project, but I happen to know that he waste half the day to just bring the dogs outside. And if it's a winter storm they might run inside again without even doing their business... I thin k he has decided to ignore their natural basic needs, except encouraging them to have a baby occasionally, to keep the art thing warm. Anyone looking for a pink poodle? Look no further!
