Doing the millionaire scenario

Just for the heck of it, and because I seem to be out of fresh ideas at the moment, I'm trying the millionaire scenario. I always build my own houses, so I started with a pre-made house so that when my bank account was emptied to zero, I'd have enough money to build a house after I bulldozed the existing one. (I was afraid that wouldn't work, and she wouldn't get any money from the bulldoze. You do get the $16,000 or so that the house and furnishings were worth, however.)

The first task was to get enough skill, and then upgrade all the cheap stuff in the house. I had my Sim in the Renaissance Sim aspiration, so she's had to change jobs three times, but the third put her in the tech career, so she's also playing the tech guru aspiration. Oh, and she's high maintenance, too.

This is going slowly - I'm determined to play the scenario without any easy in-game money-makers, such as painting. We've made it to $15,000 so far, from working, selling a few of the perks she's earned from promotions, and a phone app she made (for tech guru aspiration). She also does programming side-jobs, as they count as her 'homework' for her job in the tech career.

What are you all doing to make your million?

  • One more money-making tip - collect a couple of rare frogs, or breed one from a pair on non-rare frogs, and then breed them together every four hours. Each one is worth $125, so you can pick up $750/day.
  • I bought Eco Lifestyle on sale yesterday, and decided to do the money making challenge for the game scenario.
So, I hope it counts, but my Sim ended up with almost half of the required amount in one day. There were no cheats, just some bizarre luck.
I had my Sim move into a house in Mt. Komorebi, and then head to evergreen harbor to look through the dumpster for anything she could use, or sell. While there, Clement Frost arrived, and they talked. After that, She looked elsewhere to earn money, but Clement asked to come over. Long story short, Clement married my Sim, and brought half the money with him. It will be slightly less, due to having to buy stuff for their house.

I'm still cranking away at this, and I love it. My sim, Nikita, is almost up to 900,000. I had Bella and Cassandra Goth move in with a couple hundred K so she could have some company. Nikita is using her kleptomaniac trait to add to both their furnishings and their cashflow. She won't let Bella splurge on home furnishings, and crafts (or steals) chairs and tables when needed. Now, whenever Nikita hits a vault, Bella will sneak and buy something like a dishwasher, justifying it as being a reward for a successful steal. Bella has no job but is trying to add to their cash flow, but she isn't having any luck with her chosen profession. Nobody wants to come to her yoga or meditation classes, even if she is having them at a spa. I think Mortimer is bad mouthing her around the town and everyone is avoiding her.

Nikita and Cassandra are almost thru University. Nikita got a scholarship because she had requested it before Bella moved in. So now even though she has tons of cash, she still gets to go to school for free. LOL. I've been having fun, although sending sims to Uni gets to be a grind. At this point, they are making over 35K each week due to investments/interest, so they'll be over 1,000,000 pretty soon.

    56 Days.
I wasted a lot of time trying something different before switching over to another strategy.
The guy is a painter and he used his savings to buy this property with several tiny homes on it.

It was fun having roommates, isolated to their units, but I quickly found that his gardening side hustle was bringing in 20,000 a day.
So I kicked the roomies out, and bulldozed the houses, but one of the roommates became his girlfriend and moved in.

I was more focused on simply enjoying the game, building and decorating their home, their hobbies, than I was on the simply achieving the million as quickly as possible.

And I really did enjoy playing this.
The girlfriend turned out to be Uni dropout with an F average. I sent her back to Uni to get her communications degree.
The guy continued with his art, gardening, and a bit of novel writing. The girl, Yuna, graduated and got a job in commuications.

The house renovation was a reward when they reached 500,000 simoleons. The greenhouse was a reward for reaching 750,000. The money began to escalate quickly after 500,000 because the mushroom quality was rising and he was earning other reward traits to boost that.
They finished in midsummer, much earlier than I had planned. I was going to send them to Selvadorada in the fall as part of their plan, but they made the money way before that. So I sent them anyway.

    So what's next?
Their trip to Selvadorada gave me an idea. I really hate how sims outfit themselves for adventure in Selvadorada. It's so random and not very helpful. So my sims are going to use their riches ($1,204 336) to start a World Adventures Outfitters business, so my sims can buy exactly what they need and want whenever they go on a trip. You need 10 machetes? Here they are.

They will continue adventuring of course.
Yuna made it to the top of her career and has already quit a job. She will probably get a degree for archeology and then start having children.

And then they will move to this house that I am currently refining for them.

They will continue gardening, but more for what they need and also the rarest plants.

Nikita and her roomies got to 1,000,000 after 56 game days. I had a blast, although I have to admit to getting a bit antsy at the very end, waiting to get that last 75k. I finally had Nikita rob a vault to get over that hump. I think 1,000,000 is a bit much, honestly. All three ladies got the 5000 aspiration points which was cool - I had assumed only Nikita would get them, since I started with her living alone on the lot.

Anyway, I am very, very happy I tried it, and I know I'll do it again, eventually. I now have yet another favorite sim, in my Nikita Jones, and I have enjoyed playing with her roomies Bella and Cassandra Goth as well. Nancy Landgraab is their neighbor, and I'm still working out what will happen to Malcomb Landgrab and Alex Goth. Geoffrey Landgraab is my current villain, and Mortimer Goth may wind up being an accomplice.

I'm currently sending my ladies to Batuu for a vacation. When they return, I'll have to decide what to do next. I'm leaning toward sending Cassie and Nikita (plus a newly created neighbor) off to have magic lessons, and then send them off to Selvadorada for an adventure, which I have never played thru. Since Nikita is a kleptomaniac and Cassie is gloomy and paranoid, it should be fun. Blair (the new neighbor) is a goofball, unless I change his traits.

I also have to finish off Geoffrey and possibly Mortimer at some point. Malcomb and Alex may wind up moving into a lot together; I'm thinking of having all the young people in one lot gaining skills as though going to prep school. I think Malcomb is going to become a photographer, but Alex hasn't decided what to do yet.

I'm at a point where I don't even want to play with this scenario save. I think, without a doubt, this is the most boring challenge I've ever done! With the ONLY goal being money, all fun is drained. I never play just for money. I've not even managed 100k yet, and I'm about to just cheat to get it done :D

Both sims are painting whenever they have some free time. Main sim is currently top of Conservationist career, with working from home option (so plenty of time to do other things). Her husband is also almost maxed his gardening, but with plants constantly reverting to dirt piles, this is absolutely not a fun option for money making :( He is also fishing and collecting whatever he can find, I keep 1 collectible and sell the rest.

I feel like I'm just scrounging for pocket change here, without advancing much at all with the goal of the scenario. Maybe I'll just quit her job, send them off to Selvadorada and take up archeology. Any other tips are very much welcome! Hopefully I won't have to give this up, since I DO want to finish it :)
