I still want to buy the new pack, but I will probably see what people say about it, before getting it.
As for the nerfing thing, I love occult stuff, and it is really sad that so much gameplay for it was taken out.
I had Vampires the would breakin, and got so many Vampires that way. I had forgotten about locking the door, and once I locked it for some houses, they left my Sims alone. The Alien abductions too were nerfed long before I got Get to Work, which I was disappointed about, because what is the point of having aliens when you really can't use them.
I just don't get why people who play normally, because the game kind of gives you a few options when you get the occult packs. Every time you create a Sim in CAS, the default is always a normal Sim, with the occults having to be added in. The supernatural sims are so nerfed that I honestly forget they are in the game, until they pop up every once in awhile.
Instead of completely giving in, and give us the option to get the occult game play we want, they should update the game play option in the game. We can choose the life spans, and they can add in the option to turn off the Supernatural in the option for "realistic" players.
I still own Sims 2, and i really miss the randomness of that game, and each Supernatural element included, you had to work for. For example, if you wanted to be a werewolf, you had to befriend a wolf with glowing eyes called leader of the pack. To get a witch, you had to befriend a good witch or evil witch.
I don't play Sims 3 as much, but one of my first packs after the base game were Pets and Supernatural.
