I don't interact with vampires or spell casters in some of my games. My sim gets bitten only 1 time if I leave the door unlocked and never sees any sims using a broom. I see the vampires around town but they're working and acting like a regular sim.
Complaints about vampires and spell casters in the sims can be compared to playing a RPG and choosing to play a thief. Then being upset because the game makes you do thief quests when you didn't want to steal.
Take Skyrim for example, when you join the thief guild you have to frame a shop keeper, once joined, you have to force several other shop keepers to give money to the guild. I don't know what else is in the quest line because I started a new game and now I don't join the guild. I did not tell Bethesda to take the thief guild out of the elder scrolls, instead I avoid doing the thief guild quests in my game.
The problem with the Thiefs' Guild in Skyrim is not about its questline (which is great, btw) :) It's about not having an option not to join them. Brinjolf would literally pursue your Dovakin if you didn't take the quest from him. Besides, in order to avoid getting this quest you must know very clear that choosing a certain response in his dialogue (quite innocent response btw) will result in beginning the welcome quest...
So you're right: the situation with the Thiefs' Guild in Skyrim is quite similar to the unavoidable occult gameplay in The Sims games ;)
Speaking about the Sims and Skyrim, I would prefer the Sims' supernatural gameplay to feel like joining the Dark Brotherhood, not the Thiefs' Guild: subtle, optional and not-so-obvious.
