In TS 1 & 2 I got the various packs as they came out because they added options for house building & furnishing or added to the game play in some manner. TS4 is the first one where I've been picky. Will a given pack expand my options or just fill up space? I fully agree with the sentiments that this is not a game, at least in the sense that TS 1 & 2 are. Probably why I rarely try ts4 at all, and when I do it's rare to make the 1 hour mark. In TS2 I can easily get immersed for several hours at a time in any of several ways, many of them impossible in ts4.
I loved TS2 when I first played it so much when I shut down I would just go back in and play for hours. I felt for the time frame and it just going 3D that it was something new and sad to say Sims 1 became yesterday news. Sims 3 even though it had it lacked some of Sims 2 appeal it did the same for me. Now with SIms 4, even to present times and all the packs it just do not keep me glued to it and I wish I could have that feeling I had with 2 and 3 but it just not possible. So you are not alone in how you feel, Sims 4 for me could have been so much more but it is not. :(
