Eco Lifestyle is easily my favourite Expansion Pack. It's honestly a game changer for me.
When they showed off the NAP's in their initial live stream for the pack, my jaw dropped. I've been wanting a feature like NAP's since around the time City Living came out, someone at the time mentioned how it was a shame that the Politician career didn't introduce any features where you could vote in laws, where all sims would have to obey, and it's been a dream feature ever since, and now I finally have it.
They expanded bills to accommodate utility usage, they expanded utility usage by providing alternative utility sources, they added the three R's, Reducing (waste management), Reusing (dumpster diving) and Recycling (there's a whole system for recycling and composting), they added an eco footprint (as simple as it is as a feature, still appreciated none the less), and so on.
There are many references to real world initiatives, insect farming is starting to be recognized as an extremely sustainable and nutrient rich food source, lab grown meat is starting to grow in public interest, there are more environmental sustainability related careers than ever in todays world.
And everything else of course, the new world is nice (I really enjoy the more dynamic worlds in Sims 4), the new hobbies are nice (fabrication is a new favourite of mine), all the little details with flys and roaches appearing around trash cans, all the new NPC's, the community spaces are a new favourite lot type of mine, the new text messages that act as a form of story progression, I could go on.
Despite the bugs, I love this pack. It has rooted itself deeply in my play style and I can't imagine playing without it. The community wanted more normal things, this pack adds more normal things. The community wanted the game to be less happy, this pack adds options to make things less happy. I feel like this pack would have been a HIT if they simply marketed the pack differently, and if it wasn't so broken at launch.
