Elders life span

Why is the elders life span on normal age so short compared to everybody else’s? I sort of noticed it in the first gen of my legacy challenge when the grandma died when the 3rd gen was just a toddler. This time around I went in and changed the age span in mccc or else my poor kid would have been homeless when she aged to a teen and I didn’t want that either. Well, she might have had a dad but I didn’t realize the age on his soon to be wife so I wanted them the same age and aged them up together. Anybody else find it weird that the grandparents always have a short lifespan?

  • Yeah, I don't like it too. Basically, life stages are not proportional. It's 37 days for everything under Young Adult (so 18-20 real years) and 58 days for YA, Adult and Elder (without any bonus days). If we count 37 days as 20 real years, it means 58 days are roughly 31 year. Which is very very little, should be twice as long.
I always tweak adult and elder life stages to make them longer.
  • It didn’t bug me the first time I did the challenge but I restarted it and now I noticed how weird the elders life span really is. Glad I’m not the only one who’s noticed it.

  • Yes, I noticed this when I played the Not So Berry challenge. I usually play with aging off, but for the challenge I aged up on normal life span. It's enough to complete the goals, but not enough for family generational play. In my rl family, there are always four generations and usually five living at the same time. The game should at least be able to handle three.
  • The way I calculated it, Sims don't age at the same rate at all points in the life span. On normal life span, infants age about four months a day. Toddlers-Teens age about half a year per day. Young adults and up age a year per day. This means that they are 19 in human years when they become young adults. They are 43 when they become middle aged, and they are 67 when they become elders. Elders who don't have fitness bonuses die around the age of 77. Elders with fitness bonuses live longer, but I'm not sure by how much. Do any of you know?
  • I think it's also to short on the long life span.
It's like the developers thought we don't like playing with elders or something and gave them barely any time in that life stage.
  • I think there are a lot of players who dislike playing with Elders, and some who get bored with Adults even.
I like my Elders and Adults and I agree with you! Especially when it comes to generational overlap.

PS Even without mods, your Elders probably have accumulated enough points for a Potion of Youth each, so you can use that to tweak their lifespan.
  • Yes I keep aging off most of the time, and when it is on it’s on long. I think they shortchanged elder in the sims 4, just like they shortchanged babies.

I have stores that sell youth potions…. I can’t remember if they cost anything or are free.

  • That’s how I noticed it! Cause that’s the challenge I’m paying right now. So I just changed it to where they have the same as the adults like 30 days. That way hopefully my teen has parents until early young adult.
