What I do is get the sims into a group, put the food on the table and choose the option to grab a plate together. If you want to sit at the table I'm not sure if it will work with toddlers. I usually end up putting the food on the coffee table so everyone eats in the living room. Toddlers can grab their own plate then and sit on the sofa.
