Are you putting the tree next to a fireplace or in front of it? That shouldn't be happening. Last I checked I was able to light the tree without a fire however since this patch I haven't checked to see if I have those issues in my game.
Also are you using the Seasons Christmas Trees or the Base Game Christmas Tree?
