Wow....how rude "no one cares that you a salty."....
Last thing I need is another dang scolding.
I know a lot of people and myself have a right to be angry.
This is why it's important to actually watch the video rather than reading two words and forming an opinion, that wasn't what she was saying at all.
Still She's defending EA's practices though.
No, she's explaining how they work. She said she doesn't agree with it but that's just the reality of corporations. She actually said she doesn't like the pack and wouldn't buy it herself. Again, I'd recommend dedicating the time to watching the video before passing judgement and forming ill informed opinions.Can someone give me the tl;dr? I'm sure this lady is cool, but I'd rather not spend 17 minutes watching a video that may or may not just summarize what we already know/suspect.
@Gordy
The main points:
- EA is a corporation, they've bought the rights to star wars and want to make it worthwhile and make as much money back as possible.
- EA doesn't care if existing customers are angry, because this pack will attract new customers and ultimately make more money because new customers will get into the game and start buying things. (existing player - 20 bucks for a pack, new player - 20 bucks for the base game, 20 bucks for the pack and then possibly more packs aswell.)
- The decision was made by higher ups in the company, and the developers had no say in it. (see point 1)
- If the team wants to fix certain issues (like the skin tones), it's a long process to get the higher ups in the company to grant them the time and resources for it. It's not an instant thing that they can decide what they work on.
First thank you for breaking it down because like @Gordy I didn't want to watch the video.
So this is what I learned\already knew from the breakdown....
I knew about EA and the Star Wars rights and EA is always about a money grab which I pretty much knew this game pack was about. Star Wars = money. I believe the license is up in 2023 and I am sure when the yearly plan was presented it was suggested to work in a Star wars game. The rumor mill is that the CEO of EA isn't that thrilled about the deal anyways as they have their OWN games to promote.
I am a huge Star Wars nerd but I know it is does not work with the Sims. Create my own story my ....you know. I had one of my friends who is also a huge star wars nerd and not a simmer take a look at the trailer. He said his IQ dropped and laughed. So I don't know who they are trying to market this to.
Point 3 well someone is lying here. Last I heard the devs had freedom to do whatever themes they want and Lyndsey said she thought it was a great idea(on board with the idea) So which is it??? The devs have control or not. I happen to believe they do but have to run their gameplan by EA.
Point 4 again Lyndsey said skin tones are coming soon. I am pretty sure she is capable of doing a budget without EA. I don't think they had to get approval from the higher ups...ummm she is a higher up if you want to get technical.
If these are her points, I think she is mistaken about the operation. Lyndsey being the top dog will just have to show a profit to EA. I believe the creative part is left up to her. They may be required to run their yearly game plan\budget by EA and EA may offer changes or suggestions so they can milk the cow harder. There is no way EA will be so involved at the creative level with a game like the Sims. They have sports, tournaments, lootboxes etc. Sims is small potatoes by comparison. Just look at the game shows, Sims is lucky if they are on the roster.
