I think the specialised degrees might relate to the prestige of the university (therefore, more resources etc).
My example that I think of is based more on my high schools, but one was also a language college at the time I was there. What that meant was there were more resources than normal for language lessons. I know there were more resources than normal because I moved schools to one that was a science college, and they had better science labs etc, but there were no language labs like at my previous school.
What this meant for our schooling was that, at my former school, I would have had the option to study two languages at G.C.S.E. I did not have this option at my new high school, but I had more award options to study the sciences.
In Britain, we have universities that specialise in certain areas even though they offer lots of other courses. You might have to go to a particular uni because it's the only one putting on a specific course. From what I know of DU, Britechester is the more traditional university so will pride itself on what it's always done, and Foxbury will pride itself for its modernity. That will reflect on the courses they offer? The course might be more expensive at the specialised uni?
I don't know, really, but I'm glad we know course options. ?
