I gave up on highchairs a long time ago. I may have them in just for "looks".
You don't have to put food on the floor. Toddlers will grab food from a counter, or coffee-table, shelf, etc.
They can also sit on any chair type thing as long as the chair is not attached to a table or desk. ;)
