Okay, here is something you should know....the Welcome Wagon is a fake; at least insofar as the fruitcake is concerned. Yes, a Sim comes up to your door with a fruitcake in hand, but the Sim does not give *your* Sim the fruitcake like they used to do in The Sims or The Sims 2 if they brought you a present. No, what happens is that the Sim holds on to the fruitcake and it conveniently disappears.
It's rumored that the fruitcake is actually made from a recipe that Mrs. Agnes Crumplebottom's great-great-grandmother Agatha used over a hundred years ago and tpickled in formaldehyde to preserve it for posterity. In fact, it is even rumored that the fruitcake that the Welcome Wagon shows your Sim is *the very same fruitcake*.
That being the case, you should all be grateful that your Sim never actually receives the fruitcake.
Or that would be a really short game.
Back that far it should be pickled in Rum or Whiskey. That's how it was done in the 18th century, anyway. I loved your explanation. Since I posted my complaint, I've had to restart my ancestral game save multiple times. I am also following how my 6X great-grandparents moved around a lot. Every time they move, they are 'greeted' by the Fake Welcome Wagon. However, in looking around I am often able to find the plate of fruitcake placed somewhere inside the dining room or kitchen. I make certain to 'call to meal' to be hospitable. So far, my 6X great-grandfather has a decided aversion to the stuff, which has been consistent throughout his many iterations. (I do wonder what he felt about it in RL? Something I'll never know as it isn't mentioned in his journals!)

LOL. As I have previously stated, it all depends on how it was made. I've had some excellent fruitcake and I've had some that tastes very much like dirt. Dry, and disgusting. There you have it.
