Frustrated builder

So, I'm just here to gripe, because I'm frustrated, and I know other simmers would understand....
WHEN on earth will we have more stair options. I'm sure at some point we will see spiral stairs, and maybe elevators, and that's great and all, but I personally want to see more.
I like to draw inspiration from actual floor plans, and do you know how often I actually come across straight up and down stairs. Rarely. Rarely does that happen. Almost never in more modern designs. I'm so over trying to fit in standard stairs and having to throw of the entire plan. They are just so boring!
So, here's hoping SOON we will have some better options.
I am at a point where I don't feel like there have been major improvements over previous iterations of the game. At least with 3 you could do all kinds of stairs and other types of designs with the frieze cheat.
I'm hoping for more, but I won't hold my breath.
Okay, I'm done complaining now. Sorry guys!
  • What would solve a great many of our building woes would be the interior platforms they gave us back in Sims2. Here, you could build a raised room, or you could use two or more to create a 'landing'. This permitted L-Shape stairs, and U-turn stairs, such as what I have in my RL house. The only straight staircase in my house leads down to the finished basement.

Also, I would desire to have more than the tightly wound spiral staircase. We need something far more grand. I have a picture:

  • As a builder myself I have to say that the game obviously can not offer everything we can imagine so something will always be lacking in a way. I try to see it positive though because anything that you would like to have but that is missing forces you to get creative and think outside the box. It's more challenging but can also lead to unique builds.

Frieze cheat? I never learned about that one. Dang. My grand Uncle's house could have used the U-Turn staircase. I miss the interior platform from Sims2.

My house has a sunken dining room, down one step. But the front stairs have three steps, and the back stoop one. When I mad a sims version, I had to make the dining room three steps down.

In a separate build, I did manage the illusion of L-shaped stairs. Sunken living room, two steps up to a hallway, with a staircase at a right angle to those stairs.
  • I personally really want stairs that have a landing attached. I know we can force create a landing and attach stairs, but I hate having to use those cheats and having to have the weird split level to get it to work.

And a lot of houses have stairs WITH LANDINGS and it bugs the plum out of me that we have literally never had them. It seems like it would be simple to make them just as plop downable stairs.

I'm guessing their hesitation on implementing it is because, unlike other iterations, we have different wall lengths in TS4. Which would mean a spiral, at a constant rotation, would exit at different angles at the top. (And not necessarily a perfect 90 degrees) Alternatively, they could stretch it, so it has the same exit angle and a longer rotation, but that would make the steps steeper and then they would have to animate a separate stair-walking animation for each length type so the sims' feet looked like they landed on a step as they rose. While entirely possible, I feel like it's probably more work than they feel comfortable budgeting into their releases?

I've thought about this too, but all it means is that they would have to make a different staircase object and a different staircase animation for each wall-height. So it's a bit more work, but is it really too much to ask?
