I don't think it would be impossible to visit neighbors without the use of a loading screen or seeing sims walking by in their home or possibly on a lot. This is one of my bigger wishes for the next coming years. :)
I say this because we can already see the shell of the home and see the furniture and such inside homes along with apartments. That and I came across a interesting anomaly. A sim had invited mines somewhere like a park, but ended up in Salvadora at one of the rental spots oddly enough. Could not go in since the place wasn't rented or my sims, but could sit outside on any furniture and such. A book was left on a table from one of my previous sims travels a good while back and my selected sim had autonomously went to grab it.
Thought she was gonna read it, but instead she was going to put it away. I'm just 'Where are you going to put that at???'
Inside the building apparently she waltzed in like it was nothing to put the book off in the shelf. I STILL couldn't see inside other than through the windows to see her walk by. Pulling down the walls I couldn't see anything, but lookin' through the windows? Yep, she even got something to eat and was dancing to a stereo as well. Here's an image I had got a screen shot of. Happened a couple months back. Thought it was pretty cool really.
