Wanted to chime in on this as someone who regularly creates, uploads and downloads from the gallery, because I feel this is a really important issue with the potential to drive away regular creators - so I had to make an account here...
The switch to pop now default is a BAD idea. Like Ginzu19 mentioned, if you had any content already in 'pop now' when the gallery changed, you would notice the insane amount of downloads. It goes to show that a good percentage of users, never checked the pop now tab before and either don't know how to or don't care to navigate the gallery. This is leaving new content completely invisible.
There are some features about the gallery update that are cool, like the follow button and hashtag changes, but the default needs to be changed back to newest - it helps keeping the playing field level.
I'll also mention here that the gallery sync seems to be all messed up again with missing content, duplicates, and so on.. Was slightly better until the gallery change.
It's getting REALLY frustrating EA, would have been satisfied with the gallery just running smoothly and synced properly rather than changing stuff that didn't need to be changed.
