Gallery Help-objects removed when placing lot

I've only had the the Sims4 for about 6 months. I decided that I was going to try to download a lot from the gallery. I check for it to use builds with only the content I have (which is just base game & the free holiday download) and also made sure use custom content was off.

I found a build I wanted downloaded and placed into the game (20x30 lot placed on a 20x30 lot). However, when I did this it said that it was removing or replacing items in the build because I don't own them. It was over 150 items so it made a big difference in the build). I went back and double checked that the build didn't use anything other than base game and it did not so I'm not sure what happened or what I did wrong.

Is this normal? Can you not download content if you have only base game? Did miss a step?

  • In my experience, that is not normal, though I've not been on the gallery much for a long time, so I don't know if it's a new bug. You could google-search for bug reports (the bug reports are on EA's bug report forum, not here; someone will probably give you a link).

Alternatively, for now--could you give us the name of the item and the creator's name so someone else can try it & see what happens?

One other thing--if the creator used the move-objects cheat, some of the stuff may get removed unless YOU put the cheat on the lot first, & d/l the building from within the lot as opposed to doing so from the neighborhood view. Most builders warn you with #moo #nomoo hashtags in their descriptions, but if it's an old build it may not have that --I know it was months before I knew that was an issue & started putting that info in my text descriptions.

Could be it's a #moo issue; I don't remember but I don't think they have a text-warning for #moo-related issues and may substitute that one. I'm sure someone will correct me if that's so!
  • Did you download from the "news" tab, or the "community" tab of the gallery? The former always says everything only uses basegame, even if it doesn't. So maybe it did have items from packs you don't own. Packs used are normally displayed correctly when you look at creations on the community tab.
Alternatively the build could have items from the digital deluxe upgrade, those are shown as base game but if you have the standard edition of the Sims 4 you won't have those items. Also, the reward lamps from ts3 have the same issue.
I don't think it's a move objects issue, as far as I know the game simply removes the items without the "items removed" notification. But it won't hurt to activate the move objects cheat when placing the lot.
  • @MDianaSanders - that's useful information! Thank you--I too will try to remember new/community tab distinction for the next time I d/l from the gallery.
  • @MDianaSanders I don't have a community tab. I downloaded it from the gallery tab. I have digital deluxe so that isn't the issue @Tiarella I There is a #MOO hashtag so I tried turning that on, but still got the same message.

The user name is Liel88 and it is the Boho Beach house
  • I was actually referring to the Gallery tab, it used to be called "community" before. Sorry for the confusion.

Anyway, I did look up the build you mentioned, and it uses a large number of packs from what I can see. It's just strange that it showed as base game only for you.

Maybe it's a glitch. I checked both before and after downloading, so I'm not sure what's going on. I'll pull up a different build

    Thanks for checking!

  • I checked the house, too, & it's showing lots of packs for me, too. I noticed that the builder does use #basegame for her #basegame only builds, so if you go to her playerprofile and then to her catalog, you can sort all her builds by the hashtag #basegame. You can also sort everything in the gallery that way, if it helps.
  • I think I figured out what happened. I guess I didn't understand the way it was set up correctly. I checked the box on the left that said to show only the packs I have downloaded. So it had just the holiday download checked. I assumed that it would pull up only builds that used the packs I have. When I clicked on the lot I could see the icons for the different packs but they were all dark grey except the holiday pack icon which was light gray. I assumed this meant that the dark grey ones were NOT included in the build (based on the fact that i chose my packs only). After some experimentation I found out that's not the case. I'm guessing if you chose certain packs it shows the builds that use those packs, but I guess it doesn't mean it uses ONLY those packs. It doesn't make sense to me why it would be set up this way (because why would anyone want to search by for builds with packs they don't have?) but apparently it is.

So sorry for wasting everyone's time It was just my misunderstanding of how the gallery works. Out of curiosity for those who have some but not all packs, how do you find downloads that only use the packs you have? Do you just have to keep clicking until you find one that matches your pack?
  • I'm cynical, so I believe EA doesn't allow us to filter out the packs we don't have because they want to tempt us to get them. The gallery's great advertisement for packs you don't have!

We can only use one hashtag as a time, so you can filter for one pack at a time: #basegame or #parenthood, etc. Some builders tend to use every pack that's out; others frequently make #basegame only. If you find a build you like, I encourage you to click on the original builder's name, visit their profile, & check out their catalog. You can also sort by their EA ID. (Same thing with sims).

Oh, and you weren't wasting anyone's time! This thread will surely help someone else, too. It takes awhile to get used to the gallery, and the forum--seems like there's always more things to learn, too, eh? I find it so!
  • I was afraid that may be the case. I just took out the holiday pack as an option and was able to find the base game only lots.
